Hey guys…
I have a problem and my problem is that i dont like the themes in wordpress… so i downloaded a few extra ones and i want to install them on my wordpress blog… and i dont know how to install them…

i have searched on google about this and i found a few solutions but non of them worked for me.

fo example:

http://www.templatemonster.com/help/7/90

if you take a look at this website… it says: “Using an FTP client to access your host web server, create a directory to contain your theme in the wp-content/themes directory provided by WordPress. For example, a theme named “th_theme” should be in wp-content/themes/th_theme.”

I did exactly the same thing… but my questions is that WHERE SHOULD I UPLOAD THEM? I have a free ftp account … and i uloaded them there…. but how is it possible to upload something in other ftps and then u can select it in ur WORDPRESS settings? lol

This is how I do it:
If your new theme came as a zip file, then unzip it first.
Using your FTP software, log into your website.
Double click on the ‘public_html’ folder to open it.
Open your ‘blog’ folder (if you have one) by double clicking.
Find a folder called ‘wp-content’ and double click to open it.
Find a folder called ‘themes’ and double click to open it.
Now this is where you upload your new theme to.
Just drag your new theme folder across from your desktop or wherever it is into this ‘theme’ folder.
Close your FTP.
Now log into your wordpress admin and from the dashboard select ‘presentation’.
Click on the first option ‘themes’.
You should see all the available themes there including the one you have uploaded.
Click on it to activate.
Hope that helps,
Regards, Zyfert

Question: Editing a WordPress theme I downloaded……?
I am in the process of starting my own blog. I want to use the theme from, “http://www.wpthemedesigner.com/2009/06/28/emperors-theme”. I would love to make small changes to the layout. I have listed the changes I want below.

1. Underneath the featured news section there is a 2 column posts section. For the 2 column I would like for them to appear similar to the 2 column posts section under RECENT on “http://www.woothemes.com/demo/?t=28″.

2. Under the Sponsors section I would like to add 2 more boxes for additional sponsors.

3. Popular Post section, I want to have buttons that I design that leads to my twitter, myspace, and facebook.

4. Flickr photos, I want this section to be a place for a 300×250 ad.

5. Featured video, I want this section to be a place for a 300×250 ad also.

Can someone please tell me how difficult these changes can be?

Is that a free wordpress blog or one with your own domain? You have hosting, right? As they said, use an FTP application to access your hosting server. Look for the folder wp-content (should be under your domain folder). Then double-click the “themes” folder inside the wp-content folder. Then upload the theme file into there.

After you’ve done that, go to your WordPress dashboard where you admin your blog. Go to themes and if everything’s right, you should see the new themes being an option to choose from.

Question: WordPress theme from HTML/CSS template?
I found the service http://themespress.com but $ 10 per theme becomes really expensive when I want to convert like 20 HTML templates to WordPress themes. Is there an easy way to do the same thing as the site does? (use custom tags to define WordPress sections)

I’ve been told time and again that you just have to do it all manually and with PHP, but it seems like there must be an easier way. And the theme tutorials I’ve found seem great for simple themes, not something exceptional. I need like a “beginners guild to professional themes” or something.

Thanks for any help. And WordPress 3 is almost up to 2.5 million downloads! =)

Here’s my site if anyone is curious http://viperamped.com

You’ll find the book “beginners guild to professional themes” right next to “the blind person’s instructions for reading printed pages”.

Creating a WordPress theme isn’t simple, so there are no simple instructions for doing it.

Question: How do I change the WordPress theme to a theme not on the WordPress Site?
I’ve had Blogger for a while and am just switching to WordPress.
I do not want to chose one of the themes WordPress has one their site. I searched on Google “free wordpress templates/layouts/themes” and I’ve found some that I’d like to use for my blog. When I click download, it downloads a zip file onto my PC. How do I get that onto my WordPress so that it becomes my WordPress template?
I found Blogger very intuitive with this, but WordPress is confusing me a tad.
Thank you so much!

To upload a WordPress theme, log in to your Dashboard and to go Appearance > Themes. Next, click the “Install” tab at the top of the page. Then, click the “Upload” text link, which is located directly below the “Manage Themes” tab. Click the “Choose File” button, find your theme zip file, and click the “Install Now” button.

Once the theme has been uploaded, click the “Activate” text link and you’re done!
