iTunes and Feedburner

Feedburner's SmartCast service can make your podcast's RSS feed compliant with iTunes so that you can associate a picture with your podcast, place it in the proper iTunes category, add an author name, and more. A

Although you can also hand-code your RSS feed, the FeedBurner alternative is much simpler.

CastBlaster Beta

CastBlaster is an all-in-one podcasting recording platform that will allow you to record a show "live," meaning that you play clips and music in real time as you record, rather than inserting them into your audio track after you're finished speaking.

Adam Curry has talked about CastBlaster on his podcast Daily Source Code, and has recorded some of his shows with it. A beta version is now available for download at the (very minimalist) CastBlaster website.

Podscope Is Up But Still Working Out the Kinks

Podscope, the search engine for podcasts, is now live. Since its functionality seems to be limited to single-word searches, it's more of a novelty for now.

For example, a search for "lawyer" returned a number of hits, including a show about workers' compensation in Hawaii. But searching for "workers' compensation" or "workman's comp" turned up nothing.

Searching for unique single words sometimes works. A search for "Nirvana" returned three hits. Push a button and you'll hear the portion of the podcast in which the word "Nirvana" was used. All three references seem to be about the band with Kurt Cobain, rather than the state of perfect being characterized by harmony and joy.

New All-in-One Podcasting Software

From MixMeister Technology comes Propaganda, a single tool designed to "provide an emerging group of podcasters an easy path to start producing professional-quality shows."

The software costs $49.95 and runs only on Windows XP. We heard about it at Podcasting News. There's no word yet on whether MixMeister's bold claims about its software are justified or are merely . . . propaganda.

del.icio.us gets funded

Congratulations to Joshua Schachter, who created the brilliant link-sharing service del.icio.us, which helps to power BlawgCast.com's legal podcast feed, for being able to devote himself full time to maintaining del.icio.us.

I am excited to finally be able to devote all of my energy to working on and improving this site, and I'll also be able to acquire some much-needed infrastructure. I'm still in charge of the site and still committed to making it as good as it can be.
Josh has taken on some investment capital so we can be guaranteed that this service will be around for a while longer.

If you're interested in learning more about del.icio.us and how it works?

J. Matthew Buchanan had this post earlier today: Del.icio.us links on Promote the Progress - sharing links to highlight intellectual property issues

My simple explanation: social bookmarking is the sharing of bookmarks. Del.icio.us is a tool that enables people to share their bookmarks. I collect my bookmarks here, assigning tags to each bookmark I add. People can see my bookmarks on my del.icio.us site.

But here’s the really cool part. Del.icio.us gives you an easy way to share your collected links on a particular topic....

Give it a try.

Music for your Podcasts

Law Professor Lawrence Lessig recently took time out from his busy schedule to promote the new "Yahoo! Search for Creative Commons at search.yahoo.com/cc which complements their existing search.

You may remember him from such podcasts as "Why Your Broadband Sucks". Check it out here.

Related: Not sure if Evan Brown knew of the CC search when he produced his latest podcast, but he included Music courtesy of Blandy under a Creative Commons license.
