Thinking About Doing a Podcast? It's Okay to Keep It Simple

Podcasts don't need to be highly-produced affairs with music, sound effects, and the like. Just ask Dave Winer, one of podcasting's inventors, who posits a philosophy of podcasting that favors less production, not more.

In Winer's view, individual voices and points of view are unfairly discounted by a belief that only an elite few are talented enough to be creative, and all the rest is "junk." Podcasting allows individuals to maneuver around the gatekeepers who have traditionally decided what is good enough for the rest of us to experience.

You can learn more about Winer's philosophy by listening to his Morning Coffee Notes, a podcast in which he puts his philosophy into practice by never over-producing his shows. A good place to start is the "Pisa Podcast," which Winer released on 5/12/05.
