Do You Really Want to Read About RSS?

If not, skip this entry about my own, personal RSS story. When I started The Legal Underground Podcast, I wrote the RSS feed by hand with a text editor, copying from those I'd found on other podcasts. Then I uploaded the feed to the Typepad server that hosts Notes from the (Legal) Underground. It worked.

The only problem was that I didn't have a way to see how many people were subscribing to the feed. Last weekend, I took care of the problem by switching over my feed to Feedburner. It takes the feed I create with the text editor and makes it look a little flashier. Plus, it gives me statistics about who is using it. Here is my Feedburner RSS feed.

The only problem is that since my original feed is hosted at Typepad, I cannot find a reliable way of redirecting people who subscribed to the first feed to the new one. Since I'm still using the text editor to create my feed by hand--Feedburner automatically updates its version each time I change the feed--both feeds still work. But it means my statistics won't be completely reliable.

Will I survive? Most likely.

Hey there - Rick Klau here, wanted to let you know that I've joined FeedBurner and would love to help out. First off, glad you're using FeedBurner - would love to hear your feedback after using it for a while. As for the redirect, there's some more details here about redirecting your 'old' feed here:

We're working on making this even easier (right now it's a bit too techie), but would be happy to lend a hand if need be.

Keep in touch!
